Easy Hotel, Reading.

Writer's picture: AJ TrelawnyAJ Trelawny

So, recently I stayed in the Easy Hotel in Reading as I was attending an event in Henley on Thames. (I will do a review of the company who ran the event at a later date -FYI they rock!) Henley is an approximate 20 minutes away by car, so this hotel was conveniently situated for my adventure.

The hotel is situated on what seemed to be a main, fairly busy road.

The building is a converted house and if it weren't for the big orange sign I may have driven right past!

The hotel is very newly converted and still had that slight fresh paint smell, I liked that!

The local amenities seemed good enough, there were several food options and an off licence across the road.

I ate my meals in Henley so only purchased snacks in a garage near by.

The River Thames is situated at the end of the road alongside the hotel, making access to it very simple. This would make the hotel ideal for people wanting to walk along the river or experience on water activities.

I paid £20 for a double room. There were no windows in the room. This suited me as it meant it was proper dark when I switched the lights out. This was only a base to get some kip, I wasn't looking for luxe!

Although, I was delighted to see that the room had air conditioning, which I promptly turned down to 16c. I could not have been more thrilled with any other luxury, air con is my favourite part of staying in hotels and I was not expecting it for the price I paid - top marks Easy Hotel!

The whole hotel felt safe and secure, with key card entry at night and a 24 hour, manned reception. I asked for the room not to be on the ground floor (lone female traveller) and they allocated me a room on the third floor without any difficulty.

The bed was overall comfy. Maybe a bit softer than I would normally like but not soft enough to feel like its eating you alive. It was a small double and I'm not sure I would have wanted to share with my Husband, but I am a bit of a star fish!

The linens, were crisp and cool and bright hotel white. They felt almost new, which is unsurprising as the hotel itself had only recently opened.

The lights around the headboard made it cosy and the TV on the wall at the foot of the bed allowed me have background noise as I fell asleep.

The orange pigeon hole next to the bed was the perfect size for my phone and directly underneath was a USB socket (along with two regular sockets.)

The giant, full size mirror on the wall made the room feel larger. Yet, the fact that I kept seeing movements, out the corner of my eye, was a little off putting. Overall, I feel I slept really well in this bed.

The bathroom seemed very compact but on further inspection I discovered that it was really well designed. Everything had enough space around it to be functional and even the smallest of details were thought out. For example, when you close the bathroom door to shower there is a towel rail on the wall, within reach of the shower.

The shower was lovely, not like some budget places where the shower head is tiny and fixed to the wall. This one could be lifted down and used to wash properly. The water temperature and pressure both adjusted. The doors were a little narrow for my ample frame but once I was inside the cubicle it was plenty big enough. An added bonus was the clear glass at the top of the shower allowed me to read the subtitles on the news as I washed!!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Easy Hotel and have since recommended it to others. The room is compact and budget, but it was definitely well thought out. It was ideal for a lone traveller and would have been adequate for two people who like each other a lot.

However, I think the one thing that let this hotel down was its parking.

There are only 5 parking spaces for the whole hotel and these are charged at £10 a day. I was advised of another car park close by but i found this to be unsuitable. It was poorly lit and felt inherently unsafe to me. I did not even stop to look at the prices.

Luckily, I was late enough back that some people had gone out but early enough that they were still out and managed to get a space behind the hotel.

So, there you have it, my review of the Easy Hotel in Reading. A little gem of a hotel, making my adventure to Henley way more comfortable.

Let me know, in the comments, of any little gems you have stayed in .

Thanks for popping by.

Love AJ xx
